With this in mind, we’re delighted to announce the launch of our Tree Planting Scheme. By participating, we can make a positive impact on the environment and combat climate change. The scheme is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to give back to the environment, promote green energy from clean sources, and help businesses reach net zero carbon emissions. As a valued customer, we want to share with you our mission to empower a greener generation.
What is the Tree Planting Scheme?
The scheme is designed to help tackle the global climate crisis and fight against deforestation. To help us on our journey, we have partnered with Ecologi, an award-winning environmental organisation empowering businesses to accelerate global climate action. Ecologi work with Eden Reforestation Projects to deliver local forestation efforts across the globe.
To celebrate the start of the scheme, SmartestEnergy Business has funded the planting of 10,000 trees, on behalf of our newly acquired energy customers in 2022/23. This can be viewed on our impact dashboard on the Ecologi website via the link below. You can also continue to track the progress of our Tree Planting Scheme and funding of other projects.
How will the scheme work?
In addition to the initial donation, to aid the ongoing success of our Tree Planting Scheme, SmartestEnergy Business will commit to funding the planting of 10 global trees for every new customer that chooses one of our 100% renewable energy products. The hope is this will encourage more business owners to switch to green energy and empower them to further reduce carbon emissions.
Trees act as greenhouse gas removers, with the average tree absorbing approximately 25kg of CO2 every year. They are essential for our atmospheric health, providing habitats for countless species, preserving biodiversity and supporting the delicate balance of ecosystems.
Our scheme supports the planting of native and diverse trees in global locations including Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya or Nicaragua. The tree-planting partners work closely with local communities, providing employment and empowering them with sustainable practices.
Furthermore, SmartestEnergy Business will also be funding other carbon removal and avoidance projects that make a big difference in global climate action. We will also be running a number of internal company incentives for our people to engage in supporting this cause.
