The Amazon Rainforest: A Global Treasure
The Amazon rainforest, often referred to as the “lungs of the Earth,” plays a crucial role in regulating the world’s climate and biodiversity. It is home to an incredible array of flora and fauna, and its conservation is vital for the well-being of our planet.
The Crisis – Deforestation and Forest Degradation
Being the largest tropical forest in the world, the Brazilian Amazon Forest plays a crucial role in carbon reduction globally, contributing hugely against climate change. Beyond this, the rainforest provides refuge to around 10% of all biodiversity on Earth as well as traditional communities. Hence, the Amazon is a rainforest who desperately needs protecting, preserving and promoting. In Brazil, deforestation and forest degradation contributed to an enormous 63% of national emissions in 2015. As a result, there’s a pressing need to restore and protect the rainforest and all of its inhabitants.
The Solution – Conservation and Partnering for Change
Recognising the urgency to preserve the Amazon, we have joined forces with Ecologi to take climate action now. Through funding this nature-based project, we allow for the initiative to deliver on safeguarding the rainforest and all of its inhabitants. The initiative focusses on implementing sustainable land-use practices, preventing deforestation, and promoting the revival of ecosystems. Some of the project activities include environmental education for local communities, research and monitoring for a better understanding of how we can protect the Amazon and sustainable forest management practices.
Smartest Climate Action – How you can get involved
Like our people, we invite all our customers, partners, and any other stakeholders to join us on this journey towards a sustainable future. By supporting initiatives such as those in our Climate Action Calendar, together we can make a meaningful impact on the planet
Every month we’ll be sharing our sustainable project spotlight via our InfoHub and other socials. The projects will vary from nature-based conservation such as this one, to community carbon avoidance to renewable energy funding and more. You can donate to these projects and follow our progress via our impact dashboard with Ecologi:
