SmartestEnergy Business is leading the charge in promoting diversity and inclusion within the utilities sector. From sponsoring the Women in Utilities Awards to actively participating in mentoring programmes, we're dedicated to empowering women like never before.

Empowering Women in Utilities

We're thrilled to be sponsoring the 2024 Women in Utilities Awards, reinforcing our dedication to promoting women in leadership roles within the utilities sector. At SmartestEnergy Business, we champion diversity and inclusion, striving to empower women in an industry where women are under-represented.

Our inspiring leaders, Louise Wapshare (Chief Executive, SmartestEnergy Business) and Zoe Spurgeon (VP Operations, SmartestEnergy Limited), actively participate in the Women’s Utilities Network (WUN) mentoring programme. They firmly believe in the transformative power of mentorship, nurturing confidence, facilitating career advancement, and enabling goal achievement.

As a company driven by our people, we are shaping the future of the energy landscape through a talented and diverse team. Our commitment to ‘SmartestBalance’ underscores our approach to equality and diversity in the workplace. This initiative is dedicated to embedding inclusive practices and enhancing opportunities across our entire organisation.

What is SmartestBalance?

Our focus on equality and diversity in the workplace and our steadfast commitment to developing the best inclusive practices is represented by ‘SmartestBalance’ – a roadmap which sees us introducing a wide array of investments over a three to five year period to embed equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do, while also ensuring we celebrate, promote and improve opportunities across the Group for all.

How you can get involved?

As an employee, you can join our Community Champion Steering Groups: Diverse Genders and Sexualities, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), Women in Energy and Disabilities. These groups are led by employees who help to initiate company activities (trainings, events, etc.) to draw attention to key topics, share insight and opinions via our intranet to engage colleagues in discussions that matter and provide feedback from the workforce to senior leadership to help drive new Smartest Balance initiatives.

Our equality, diversity and inclusion statement

SmartestEnergy is committed to an inclusive global strategy that fosters inspiration, innovation, and creativity. Our equality, diversity and inclusion statement outlines our priorities to ensure ‘Smartest Balance’ across group companies.
