What are the benefits of having a smart meter?

Smart meters enable us to read your electricity meter remotely automatically, saving you time and hassle and allowing you to pay for the energy you’ve used. Plus, they can also help you better understand your energy consumption and give the industry more data to efficiently manage supply and demand at national level.

When will my smart meter be installed?

Once you've switched to SmartestEnergy Business, we’ll be in touch to arrange free installation of the latest secure technology. It usually takes between 4-8 weeks to complete, as part of the onboarding process.

How long does smart meter installation take?

The installation is expected to take 60 - 90 minutes with a typical power loss period of 15 - 30 minutes. The engineer will confirm a more accurate time once they have surveyed your site, allowing you plenty of time to safely power down and unplug any equipment.

Do I have to have a smart meter?

We are committed to ensuring that our customers enjoy the benefits associated with smart meters. They help us give you better service and contribute to a smarter energy system, where suppliers and grid operators can actively monitor the energy required and match demand with greener generation sources. That’s why we install the latest technology completely free of charge.

Can I use my existing smart meter?

As part of the onboarding process before arranging any new installation, we will check your existing meter type to see if it’s compatible with our meter operator network. It may be possible to connect to this, but we will need to conduct routine checks beforehand and will then confirm with you.

Background checks

Shortly after, we’ll do some background checks on your existing meter to check whether it compatible with our network.

Installation booking

If you don’t have a working smart meter, we’ll arrange for our metering partner to install one at a date/time convenient to you.

Meter installation

A qualified engineer will visit and conduct a survey to safely power down and complete the installation with minimal interruption.

Automatic reads begin

It can take a few weeks for us to start receiving automated reads from your smart meter, we’ll let you know when everything is up and running. 

You’re good to go!

Once fully working, you’ll be able to monitor your energy consumption and highlight ways to save using our energy monitor tool.
